Graphs - Ideas that need to die

Dr. Nicolas Bissantz had this to say recently in his blog, »Me, myself and BI«.
Death to business charts!

Obese visualizations are bad, but anorexic content is even worse. Lean-looking reports that are packed with information are ideal. All you need is a sharp scalpel and…the death of the business chart. Finally!
The animated graphic is a quick lesson in why charts in Excel and PowerPoint fail to illuminate the data they present. It shows a radical make-over of a typical business chart, into a real beauty.

Jeff,

Just heard some of your comments at HIMSS 2008 at the Improving EHR Interfaces presentation. I loved hearing what all the physicians in the room had to say.

I'll have to read Dr. Bissantz's blog in more depth since it has a lot of content, but I like what I've read so far. The timing is nice since we are just putting in a reporting module to the product I work on (not an EHR unfortunately).

I'll have to pull out excerpts for my development team.

Cheers!
